What I've Read
9/10/2010 Nokia taps Microsoft Executive as New CEO(The Wall Street Journal) I chose to read this because it seemed interesting that Nokia, a big technology company, had lost most of the money it should be making in the last two years because of a single product:the iphone. They got a new CEO to help them and the owner fired the old one. So now the new CEO has a big load on his shoulders to carry the company back on top and come up with a new smart phone.
9/17/2010 Blackberry Gets Squeezed by Rivals (The Wall Street Journal) It's kind of funny how in a matter of time a certain phone, or any other product, can be at the top at one moment and then it gets outdone by a better one. A couple of years ago, the blackberry was the phone to have. Everyone wanted it, and it stayed at the top for a pretty long time. But with our technolgy now, it seems that a new phone is coming out every week and outdoing the previous one. The IDC, the premier global market intelligence firm. expects the Blackberry to loose business market share for the first time this year, while the iphone and the Android are increasing.
9/20/2010 Gene-Altered Fish Closer to Approval(The Wall Street Journal) This article is about a gene-altered fish that develops two times as fast as a farmed fish and it could potentially become the first genetically modified animal to be in American restaurants. It's good for business because it can reach the market twice as fast as regular salmon would. Other countries such as China have already started consuming genetically modified rice and haven't found a problem with it. The FDA hasn't made a conclusion on what they're going to do with the fish but if the FDA does approve it then it won't sow up in restaurants until like two to three years.
9/24/2010 Judge Gives Pakistan Woman 86 Years in Attack(The Wall Street Journal) Two years ago there was a woman that attacked U.S Army soldiers in Afghanistan. Just last Thursday she was sentenced for 86 years in prison for this attack. She was shot by another soldier and she was trying to justify by lying to the judge that she never shot anyone and that all she was trying to do was to run away from the shooting. Then her lawyer was saying that she had mental issues but she contradicted him and said that she didn't have any sort of mental problems. I usually don't care when crazy people try doing these kinds of thing but I thought it was really interesting because she was a scientist and went to MIT and Brandeis University. We really can't tell who is crazy and who is not anymore.
10/3/2010 Eagle Fans Tell McNabb How They Really Feel(The New York Times) I like this article because I'm a big fanatic of sports. I think it's funny how a person dedicates his life to a city's sport for seven years and when he is traded to another team he is hated. Even though the expectations of every team is to win the championship, only one can win each year. McNabb unfortunately couldn't get that for the Philadelphia Eagles but he at least got them far. People were flooding him with "boos" before the game. When his name was announced, the people of Phily started cheering for him. I'm glad they did this because it would of made people from Philadelphia look bad if they wouldn't end up appreciating all that this man did for his team, the sport, and the fans.
10/5/2010 Times Square Bomber Gets Life Term(The Wall Street Journal) I like this article a lot because although the bomber was attempting to kill people, he was only following his religion. I feel bad for the muslims because they really don't understand the harm that their doing when their attempting their terrorist attacks. The judge was right in sentencing the bomber for life because as Americans we can't trust anyone anymore(Not even our own citizens!). I thought it was interesting how he was waiting for people to surround the car the bomb was in to make sure to kill a lot of civilians. I don't know what to say about the muslims but hopefully they realize that to follow Allah doesn't mean they have to kill people.
10/5/2010 Motorola Co-CEO Open to Microsoft Software Despite Suit(The Wall Street Journal) I like business that has to do with technology because it keeps me u to date with the new stuff. In this article, the Motorola cell phone company is planning on not only being with the Google software but also with the Microsoft one. They were planning on combining back in 2008 but Microsoft never came up with a plan for their joining. Their Co-CEO wanted to join with Microsoft but when they never came up with a plan Motorola had no choice but to join the Android phones. I can't wait to see the competition that these new Motorola phones are going to have on the the Androids.
10/6/2010 Apple Readies Verizon iPhone(The Wall Street Journal) This is probably one of the most unexpected news I have heard in a long time. The iPhone first came out when I was in the eight grade and it was probably the best technological invention of the year. Everyone wanted the iPhone, including me, but it was only available for AT&T users. Unfortunately for me, I was a subscriber of T-Mobile and switching cell phone companies was not in my mom's head. I was mad at AT&T for being the only ones that had the iPhone. Well finally the iPhone will now be in Verizon at the beginning of next year. I still won't be able to get the iPhone but neither will AT&T users so that will keep me content for now.
10/6/2010 China UFO Baffles Sheep(EverythingPR) UFOs are one of the most interesting things humans can think of. Although many people are freaked out by the idea that aliens could be invading our world, I find it interesting. I have always believed that aliens existed. When I was little, a friend told me that aliens were a future version of humans. I still believe that until proven wrong. I hate it that all the good stuff is happening to China. I can't wait until there is evidence that marcians exist. Hopefully they go over Houston and I just happen to pass by and see it. I thought it was funny how at the end of the article he said that the Aliens were trying to invade China. It would be funny to see China in a war with people that are not even in our world.
10/8/2010 Cuts in Government Led U.S. Economy to Lose 95,000 Jobs(The New York Times) As soon I saw this article I saw 95,000 and it caught my attention. Most people say that we are going through the worst economic times since The Great Depression. I think that most adults that have jobs should be thankful because a lot of people are getting laid off. Someone used to get paid $14 an hour are now getting paid $7 an hour and work part time(20 hours a week). If I could send a message to all the employers it would be to start giving jobs to people. A job is probably worth more than anything else in this world and especially in our country. If you have a stable job then you will keep getting money to at least pay the bills.

I think my reading skills have gotten better throughout the quarter. I like doing this because I choose what I read, and I get to do research over stuff I'm interested in learning about. I'm not reading faster, but I know my reading comprehension is way better now. I also like that we have to update what we're reading because it makes me think over and reflect over what I had just finished reading. I hope some of my classmates are interested in reading some of the articles I'm reading because their very interesting and informative.
